The Palm Jumeirah (Pixels) - Original Painting
The Palm Jumeirah (Pixels) is an original painting from Olivia Boa’s distinctive “Pixels” collection, created for her May 2014 Dubai exhibition. For this exhibition, Boa applied both her “Pixels” and “Blind” styles to some of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks, producing five paired works as well as a Dubai Skyline in “Pixels” only.
In her “Pixels” works, Boa reimagines Palm Jumeirah through vibrant colour and carefully structured pixel forms. At the forefront of the painting, Atlantis The Palm becomes a strong visual focus, anchoring the composition, while repeated geometric blocks gradually build the recognisable form of the Palm. The interplay of blues, greens, warm tones and lighter accents creates a sense of controlled harmony, rhythm and movement, giving the work a lively, almost shimmering quality.
This structured approach reflects Boa’s interest in energy, motion and the continuous movement of matter, while contrasting with the more instinctive and emotionally driven character of her “Blind” works. Through these two approaches, Boa explores the balance between analytical thought and emotional intuition, an idea that also connects with her work as both an artist and therapist.
For a more expressive and intuitive interpretation of the same landmark, explore Olivia Boa’s “Blind” series.
