Dubai Skyline (Pixels) - Original Painting
Dubai Skyline (Pixels) is an original painting from Olivia Boa’s distinctive “Pixels” collection, created for her May 2014 Dubai exhibition. For this exhibition, Boa applied both her “Pixels” and “Blind” styles to some of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks, producing five paired works as well as a Dubai Skyline in “Pixels” only.
In this work, Boa reimagines Dubai’s iconic skyline through vibrant colour and carefully structured pixel forms. The city’s architectural landmarks rise against a striking sunset sky, where turquoise blues gradually give way to rich purples, warm oranges and golden hues. Layered across the composition, the geometric elements create a sense of controlled harmony, rhythm and movement, while the interplay between the structured cityscape and the shifting colours of the sunset gives the painting a dynamic, almost shimmering quality.
This structured approach reflects Boa’s interest in energy, motion and the continuous movement of matter, while contrasting with the more instinctive and emotionally driven character of her “Blind” works. Through these two approaches, Boa explores the balance between analytical thought and emotional intuition - an idea that also connects with her work as both an artist and therapist.
