Burj Khalifa Study (Blind) - Original Painting

Burj Khalifa Study (Blind) is an original painting from Olivia Boa’s distinctive “Blind” collection, created in connection with her May 2014 Dubai exhibition. For this exhibition, Boa applied both her “Blind” and “Pixels” styles to some of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks, exploring contrasting interpretations of the city through emotion and structure.

In her “Blind” works, Boa paints blindfolded and without visual control, allowing instinct, emotion and spontaneous movement to guide the composition. In this study, the Burj Khalifa emerges through expressive brushstrokes and vibrant layers of colour, its towering silhouette rising against a luminous backdrop of turquoise blues, warm oranges and golden yellows. The fluid forms, energetic gestures and cascading streaks of paint create a sense of height, movement and vitality, capturing the dynamic presence of Dubai’s iconic skyscraper through an intuitive and deeply personal interpretation.

This instinctive approach reflects Boa’s exploration of harmony through freedom from visual constraints, while contrasting with her more structured “Pixels” style, in which colour and form are carefully organised to create a more analytical interpretation of the same subject. Through these two contrasting approaches, Boa explores the balance between emotional intuition and analytical thought—an idea that also connects with her work as both an artist and therapist.
