Elizabeth Bruce's camel collection is inspired by her trips into the desert and camel races where she selects her subjects to paint. It was Kunya’s attractive expression and the warmth radiating from her deep brown eyes which moved her to paint this subject. The painting conveys the beautiful colours of the Arabian sunset and echoes the beauty of the desert landscape. The subtle colours and glow of the setting sun are mirrored on Kunya’s coat. In this painting, we experience a combination of subtle palette and vibrant mixes to successfully create the time, mood and atmosphere of the day. Kunya’s trusting, sad and friendly eyes seduce us.
"Kunya is a faithful and trustworthy camel. She has been with her owner in the desert for many years. I was drawn to the soulful subject and the lonely location. The evening scene reflects the warm and contrasting colours of the setting sun. Kunya shares an enquiring, tranquil yet restful gaze."
