Based on countless encounters in the Middle East with Eldorado seekers who had left their home countries in search of a better life elsewhere, Marwan Karout raises key questions about their nomadic lives, why they sometimes turned idyllic, yet often not.
Discussion after discussion, Marwan observed that all travelers were dreamers carrying with them at all times a huge and omnipresent dream of success in their mind. Just as big as the oversized suitcases represented by Marwan in his works, these dreams became the main driver of the men and women he spoke with.
- How much have they sacrificed for their dreams?
- Have they ever achieved their real goal? Or have they kept pursuing it year after year?
- Have they changed during the adventure? Or simply gotten older?
- Do they still know their homes for what they are, or only for what they used to be before they left?
- Have the successful ones remained free in their minds, or become prisoners of what they once were dreaming of?
Marwan Karout is a passionate artist working in Dubai. Originating from Lebanon, he has studied and worked in Canada as well, and has been the recipient of several international prizes. Pursuing art from a young age, he studied art in Beirut with great assiduity and success before becoming an art teacher and increasingly devoting time to his creative passion.
